Late Mr S. Premachandra and His Dedication to World Saiva Council

From time to time the World Saiva Council (WSC) was having its International Conferences in various countries. In some of these conferences, the importance of worship and prayer in Tamil language was stressed and resolutions were passed.

At the conference at Chidambaram, India, in 1992 also such a resolution was passed. Mr Premachandra was happy to learn about this resolution. With the help of his brother K. Ganesalingam who was already a key member of the WSC, he joined the Council and followed its policy and practice. He also met Swami Sivanandhi Adikalar, Head of London Meykandaar Adheenam and WSC.

This led him to continue working with the WSC, joining hands with the founder of this organisation, Swami Sivanandhi Adikalaar. He did his best to see that Saivism grows and not to be exploited by inimical forces. He became the treasurer of the UK Branch of the WSC.

He received the WSC publications from Chennai and distributed them to various people. ‘Saiva Ulakam’ was a regular bi-lingual publication. Many times, he was covering the cost involved by himself in these activities. Saiva Ulagam magazines were printed and edited in Chennai with the help of Dr R Gopalakrishnan.

Mr Premachandra also organised examinations in Saivism to young Tamil students who lived away from their home countries. There was a tendency for them to drift away from their religion and Saiva traditions.

In 1990 and onwards, he joined the great Saiva follower and well-known teacher Mr Manoharan to run Saiva Examination centres in several areas across London. He awarded prizes to the successful young students and encouraged them to learn our ancient Saiva religion.

On 3rd November 2001, 10TH conference of the WSC, was successfully held in Sri Kanaga Thurkai Amman temple in Ealing, London, headed by Swami Siva Nandhi Adikalaar. Mr Premachandara was the prime organiser to the success of this conference.
Some of the photos relating to it and prizes won by the young pupils are given below.

This is the first book published by Mr. Premachandra and Mr. Devarajan for the temple. Mr Devarajan and Mrs Parameswari Devarajan were very helpful to import CDs, cassettes, and books from India and also Maintaining a small library in the temple.
